ACVB Log Cabin and Visitor Information Center

On the corner of 4th Ave. & F St., this sod-roofed cabin is a great place to start all your adventures. Inside you'll find a friendly, helpful staff and loads of brochures, maps, and information about Anchorage, Alaska. In front, a colorful milepost demonstrates Anchorage's location as "Air Crossroads of the World." The Center is open daily, year-round. Pick up the valuable Visitor Information Guide while you are there!

Directions: Take New Seward Highway to downtown; turn left on 5th Avenue, right on I Street and right on 4th. The cabin will be on your right hand side.

4th Avenue Theatre

This Art Deco-style landmark first opened in 1947, survived the 1964 earthquake, and was completely refurbished in 1992. Today, you'll find shops and the theatre's original floor-to-ceiling bronze murals. Off-white Travertine marble is used along the front facades of the Fourth Avenue Theatre. The walls of the richly decorated vestibule are beige/pink polished marble, with quarter-round molding at the entry door and a "flattened" neoclassical crown at the ceiling. This is an Anchorage landmark with fantastic history and a great place to stop in while on the downtown Walking Tour. Location: 630 W. 4th Ave (4th and G Street).

Anchorage Walking Tour

This is a wonderful way to become familiar with Anchorage, Alaska. Starting from the Log Cabin Visitors Center at 4th Ave. and F Street, this self-guided tour offers both scenic and historic perspectives of the city.

The Alaska Zoo

Since its incorporation in 1968, the zoo has successfully rehabilitated and placed many orphaned and injured animals. The Alaska Zoo is one of the most visited places in the state with annual attendance well over 200,000. Don't pass up the opportunity to experience a truly special place in Alaska. Attractions include Bald Eagles, Polar Bears, Musk Ox, Moose, Great Horned Owls, Snowy Owls, Caribou, Wolverines, Harbor Seals and many other species of animals, all in a park-like setting

Directions: take 36th Avenue East to Lake Otis Parkway, right on Lake Otis, left on O'Malley Road, Zoo is on the left just past the golf course.

The Anchorage Museum of History and Art

  • Collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets cultural materials which illustrate the art and history of Alaska and the circumpolar North;

Directions : Take New Seward Highway to downtown, turn left on 5th Avenue, left on A Street. Museum is located on 7th and A Streets and takes one city block.

Alaska Native Heritage Center

This amazing attraction provides cultural experiences to residents and visitors of all ages. Much of the exhibit content is interactive and demonstrative in nature which affords visitors an opportunity to not only examine the artifacts of the societies represented, but to actually meet the people and interact with them as they perform their craft. Direction to the Best Western Golden Lion

If you are traveling by car, simply take the New Seward Highway to the 36th Street Exit and we are right on the corner. Entrance to the parking facility is easiest if you are traveling East on 36th, so if you are coming from the North, take a left when you reach 36th from the New Seward Highway. If you are coming from the South, simply take a right off the off-ramp and an immediate right into the parking lot.
